Paris Saint-Germain Claims Ligue 1 Title, Lens & Marseille Secure Champions League Qualification
Updated:2025-12-14 08:32 Views:177Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have claimed the Ligue 1 title for the third consecutive season, securing their eighth league crown in nine years.
The French giants had already secured a top-four finish and were looking to add another piece of silverware to their collection when they took on Rennes at the Parc des Princes. A brace from Kylian Mbappe ensured PSG's victory, with the 22-year-old scoring twice in just over half an hour of play.
The win was PSG's fourth successive Ligue 1 title, and it leaves them as the most successful club in the competition's history. The Parisians have now won the league trophy 84 times, more than any other team in the competition's 117-year history.
Meanwhile, Lens and Marseille have also secured Champions League qualification for next season. Both teams finished second in their respective leagues this season, meaning they will face off against each other in the Europa League quarter-finals.
Lens defeated Nice 3-2 on aggregate in the last round of qualifying, while Marseille beat Lille 5-2 in the final match. Both teams will now face off against each other in the semi-finals of the Europa League.
Marseille coach Lucien Favre praised his side's performance in the Europa League qualifier, saying: "We knew it would be tough against Lille but we played well and deservedly won."
Lens manager Christophe Galtier also expressed his satisfaction with the result, saying: "It's been a difficult week for us after losing to Paris Saint-Germain but we've shown our quality tonight and I'm proud of my players."
